Media outlets in New York have reported that four people were seriously injured in a head-on collision in Wayne County on the evening of July 21. A representative from the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office said that the investigation into the crash was ongoing. The accident took place on Ridge Road in the Town of Wolcott at approximately 6:30 p.m.

According to a WCSO report, it occurred when a vehicle heading eastbound crossed a double solid line while attempting a passing maneuver and struck an oncoming vehicle head-on. The 23-year-old Walworth man behind the wheel of the eastbound vehicle and his 41-year-old male passenger suffered serious injuries in the car collision as did the 50-year-old man and woman who were traveling in the westbound vehicle.

The drivers of both of the vehicles involved were transported by ambulance to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. The passenger in the eastbound vehicle was airlifted to the same hospital. They were all reported to be in serious but stable condition. The female passenger in the westbound vehicle was more seriously hurt, and she was transported by helicopter to a Level I trauma center in Syracuse.

Head-on collisions are often catastrophic due to the combined speeds of the vehicles involved, and experienced personal injury attorneys may pursue compensation on behalf of those who are harmed even if the driver responsible did not cross a solid line. Motorists are expected to check for oncoming traffic before making any potentially dangerous maneuvers, and they may be held legally and financially responsible when they fail to meet this duty of care.
